Botox: What to Do Before and After Your Appointment

Botox is a non-surgical, temporary means of reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is a simple procedure that can be performed during a lunch break. There are a number of things to keep in mind both before and after the procedure is performed to maximize the success and minimize the chances of side effects.

Before going to your Botox appointment, it is very important not to take vitamin E, aspirin, Motrin IB, Aleve, Advil, or Ibuprofen, if possible. These are all blood thinners that will increase the chances of bruising. A good vitamin to take is Arnica Montana. This vitamin will help to prevent bruising due to Botox injections.

Immediately after an appointment, there are a number of things to be done as well. If there is bruising, ice the site of the bruising in 10 minute intervals. If you experience redness or bruising, avoid sun exposure as much as possible. Once again, Arnica Montana can play a role in helping a person get the most out of their appointment. The same vitamin that helps to prevent bruising will also help to decrease bruising and promote healing.

Following Botox treatment, it is a good idea to do facial exercises for 2 hours. In addition, it is important to keep the head upright for a minimum of 4 hours. Heavy lifting and exercise should be avoided in the 24 hours following the Botox treatment. Also, avoid massaging or rubbing the area, as this has the possibility of diffusing the Botox and lessening its effects.
