Botox for Excessive Sweating
Most people associate Botox with fixing wrinkle lines. However, this neurotoxin injection has also been approved by the Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, to treat excessive underarm sweating. This condition, known as hyperhidrosis, can be uncomfortable and embarrassing, but Botox may be able to help.
At Dermagenix medical spa, our on-site MD can help you devise a treatment plan for your excessive sweating, then administer the Botox injections you need to help with your condition. What is Hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis is a condition where your body produces excessive amounts of sweat frequently or even constantly. This can affect different areas of your body, but commonly occurs in the underarms, palms, and soles of the feet. It may cause you to sweat so much that you feel uncomfortable in social situations.
How Botox Helps
Although there are topical treatments and drugs to help reduce sweating, these may not be enough to help with your excessive sweating. In these cases, you may be able to use Botox instead. Botox injections actually contain a neurotoxin that blocks the nerves that signal to the sweat glands. This prevents the nerves from triggering the sweat glands to produce sweat. Botox has been approved for underarm hyperhidrosis, and it can stop the production of sweat for an average of four months.
