How Varicose Veins Are Formed
Many people, men and women alike, suffer from varicose veins. These cosmetically unwelcome formations are merely veins that have become enlarged and entangled. However, aside from their aesthetic impact, varicose veins can also be quite uncomfortable for some people, and their removal is therefore a common procedure.
Varicose veins, sometimes called spider veins, when present in a less severe manner, are typically found in the legs. There are valves found inside your veins that prevent backward flow of the blood; however, in areas lower in the body where there is a larger amount of pressure acting on these valves, they can sometimes fail. The probability of failure increases with age or pregnancy. When this happens, blood will collect inside the veins, causing them to stretch out and become more noticeable. In severe cases, this phenomenon can be quite painful.
Common symptoms of varicose veins include the feeling of heaviness in the varicose area, a burning feeling, swelling, itching, and in more severe cases, ulcers. While none of these side effects are life-threatening, they can be quite annoying and unbearable after a certain amount of time.
Take Steps to Remove Varicose Veins
There are procedures available to remove varicose veins from the affected area. These include laser treatment, sclerotherapy, and venous ligation.
