The Benefits of Moisturizing
Moisturizing is one of the most important things a person can do for his or her skin. It is the cornerstone of good skin care. In addition to forming a barrier between the skin and environmental conditions, moisturizers form a fine protective layer that enables the skin to retain all of the moisture it needs in order to be healthy.
In order for the skin to be truly healthy, it must be moisturized. This is essential for all skin types, including oily skin. Dry skin and aging skin get the most out of any moisturizing regime, but this is not to say that other skin types do not need moisture. A lack of moisture on the skin can cause the skin to become dry. When it is dry, it is much more likely to wrinkle.
There are two general types of moisturizers, cream based and water based. The rich, thick moisturizers, both water and cream based, take care of dry and wrinkled skin. Water-based, oil-free moisturizers work the best for oily skin. Herbal moisturizers are very light. They help protect the skin but also evaporate excess moisture.
In an ideal world, everyone would moisturize on a daily basis after thoroughly cleansing and toning the skin. They can also be applied before makeup to serve as a protective base. Using a light moisturizer will help hold make up in place throughout the day. Dry skin types require a heavy moisturizer at night. This helps to “feed” the skin moisture all night. An excellent moisturizer will protect the skin from premature aging due to sunlight. This is because truly excellent moisturizers will have sunscreen in them.
