Tips for Healthy-Looking Eyes
One of the most obvious places in which the stress of modern life can show itself in your appearance is around the eyes. Dark circles or puffiness in this area are usually due to a lack of sleep, staying up too late, or prolonged crying, and they can be maddeningly persistent. Fortunately, there a number of measures you can take if “problem-eyes” are plaguing your life.
To treat dark circles and puffiness, you may want to consider the following:
- For starters, do your best to get a good night’s sleep. Most physicians recommend between 8 and 10 hours every night. However, much more than this, or sleep achieved through taking certain drugs, can still lead to tired-looking eyes. Unfortunately, insomnia is a major problem for millions of Americans. If sleep simply isn’t coming as easily as it should, consider speaking to your doctor.
- There may be something to the age-old technique of placing cool cucumber slices over your eyes for fifteen to thirty minute increments. The temperature and natural properties of the slices can reduce puffiness and swelling. Similarly, placing chilled, steeped bags of green or herbal tea over the eyes can have healing and soothing effects.
- Applying a moisturizer after washing the face can help reduce wrinkles and increase the tightness of the skin around the eyes. If you prefer a more natural approach, ground raw potato mixed with almond paste has been noted for offering similar results.
