Types of Acne Scars
Let’s face it, we all served our time during our teenage years where the sprouting of a new pimple could ruin our lives, or at the very least our day. Unfortunately, some acne was more severe leaving the face scarred and pocked. Dermagenix offers a variety of treatment options for both acne and acne scars. Understanding the different types of acne scars is a starting point to picking the right treatment for you.
The Icepick Scar
Icepick scars are sharp, narrow scars that give the appearance that the skin has been punctured with an ice pick. Often narrower than 2mm, this type of scar extends into the deep dermis or subcutaneous layer of the skin, requiring that they often must be treated with surgical procedures.
The Boxcar Scar
The boxcar scar is characterized as a round or oval depression with sharp vertical edges. This type of scar is often shallow and can usually be treated with conventional resurfacing techniques like dermal fillers. Some boxcar scars may require full-thickness treatment techniques.
The Rolling Scar
As the name suggests, a rolling scar gives the skin a rolling appearance. This is because the acne has left the skin secured to the subcutaneous tissue below the skin. Rolling scars need to be treated using incisions underneath the skin to break up the subcutaneous fibrous bands.
